December 11, 2006 Tom Ray Honored by Gov. Dave Heineman Madison VFD firefighter receives 70-year Service Pin

 

December 1, 2006 2006-01:  NEBRASKA SERIOUS INJURY & LINE-OF-DUTY DEATH RESPONSE TEAM  Representatives throughout Nebraska met at the Kearney (Nebraska) Volunteer Fire Department on November 4-5, 2006 and formed a statewide response team to assist local departments.

 

December 1, 2006 2007-2008 NSVFA MEMBERSHIP DUES TO INCLUDE NSVFA OWNED NEWSPAPER An approved motion at the 2005 Annual Conference General Assembly instructed the NSVFA Executive Board to review the NSVFA publication and NSVFA communications.  In response to this motion, a subcommittee of the E-Board explored options and reported its results to the E-Board at its May, 2006, meeting at Fire School.  At this meeting, the Board voted to approach the membership at the 2006 Annual Conference with a proposal that the NSVFA publish its own newspaper.

 

November 14, 2006 MUTUAL AID CALLING TREE At the Fire House of Delegates meeting held October 21, 2006, at Annual Conference, much time was devoted to discussing the major fires that had occurred throughout the state this past year which caused many concerns and questions to surface related to response by outside departments to these events.  As a result, the attending membership at the second Annual Conference General Assembly approved a motion “to support a Mutual Aid calling tree through development of a sub-committee or task force which would work with the Nebraska Forest Service."  

 

October 20, 2006 The NSVFA proudly announced at the Annual Conference, the adoption of a new logo to be used for branding of products and materials associated with the NSVFA.  This is logo is registered with the State of Nebraska and shall not be used without the exclusive approval of the Executive Board of the NSVFA.

LEGISLATIVE PLANNING MEETING HELD AUGUST 11, 2007 – 2008 LEGISLATIVE GOALS ANNOUNCED

August 11, 2007, a Legislative Planning Meeting was held in York, Nebraska attended by representatives of the NSVFA Executive Board, Nebraska Fire Chiefs’ Association Executive Board, and Legislative and EMS Committee members of both associations.

NSVFA 2008 Legislative Goals

  1. Reintroduction of LB 264 (2007) - “Adopt the Volunteer Emergency Responders Incentive Act and provide for an Income Tax Credit

  2. New Legislation – Introduce legislation to provide job protection by authorizing volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel to report late to work without employer imposing consequences if call is initiated before hour of employment is set to begin.

  3. New Legislation – Introduce legislation requesting that Rural Fire District Boards be given sole authority up to 10-1/2 Cents levy.

  4. New Legislation – Introduce legislation raising prosecution of fires without burning permits to a Class 3 misdemeanor which increases the amount of the fine.

  5. LB 584 (2007) – “Adopt the Reduced Cigarette Ignition Propensity Act” (This bill is still in committee and automatically continues during the 2008 Legislative Session.)

LB 274 - Require a warning label on liquefied petroleum gas tanks and provide a limitation on liability.   
LB 278 - Change permitted uses of county sales tax revenue.   
LB 289 - Change procedure relating to elections to exceed the tax levy limit.   
LB 293 - Redefine public safety official with respect to infectious disease exposure.   
LB 361 - Prohibit public funds’ use for dues or membership fees as prescribed.   
LB 391 - Change provisions relating to public records and meetings.   
LB 392 - Change provisions relating to municipal counties.   
LB 395 - Adopt a New Nebraska Clean Indoor Air Act.   
LB 401 - Provide for notations on drivers’ licenses and state identification cards requiring advance medical directives.   
LB 416 - Exempt government retirement benefits from income tax.   
LB 437 - Change provisions relating to issuance of specialty and personalized license plates.   
LB 448 - Change limitation of action provisions under the Political Subdivisions Tort Claims Act.   
LB 463 - Adopt the Uniform Credentialing Act.   
LB 485 - Change tax levy provisions relating to fire protection districts.   
LB 489 - Change provisions relating to and require buses to have occupant protection systems.   
LB 584 - Adopt the Reduced Cigarette Ignition Propensity Act.   
LB 592 - Change provisions relating to sanitary and improvement districts.   
LB 607 - Provide a requirement for full-time fire personnel in certain cities of the first class.   
LB 622 - Require training courses in public records and the Open Meetings Act for all members of a public body, public officers, and public employees.   
LB 628 - Change budget provisions and levy limitations for cities, villages, and counties.   
LB 661 - Change provisions relating to telecommunications.   
LB 667 - Permit municipalities to allow pedestrians to solicit contributions on roadways.   
LB 676 - Prohibit the blocking of railroad crossings for more than a specified time and to provide penalties.   
LB LR1CA - Constitutional amendment to change legislative salaries.   
LB LR3CA - Constitutional amendment to change from a unicameral legislature to a bicameral legislature.   
LB LR13 - Provide the Legislature encourages public fire departments to implement national fire safety guidelines.
