Fire-Safe Flameless Candles -- Casting a
bright and safe light for fire prevention
WASHINGTON, DC –
According to the United States Fire Administration (USFA), each
year there are approximately 23,600 residential fires caused by
the improper use of candles. As a result, 1,525 civilians are
reported injured and 165 are killed. Estimated property loss
from the improper use of candles is $390 million.
The Congressional Fire Services
Institute (CFSI) and the Home Safety Council (HSC) have teamed
up to introduce a safe alternative to candles called Fire-Safe
Flameless Candles. These candles have the look and feel of
traditional candles without an open flame. Starting today, CFSI
and HSC will launch a fund raising program, making these candles
available for sale at discount prices to fire and emergency
services organizations, which in turn can offer them in their
communities as part of their own fundraising or prevention
programs. Operating for 350 hours on two “C” batteries,
Fire-Safe Flameless Candles are made of real scented wax and use
an LED bulb which creates the random glow and flicker to give
the effect of real candlelight. The candles come in two
different colors (white and champagne) and are available in
different shapes and sizes. These products are perfect for the
home and for facilities where candle use is prohibited, such as
dormitories, nursing homes and offices. The Fire-Safe Flameless
Candle, which is manufactured by Candle Impressions, was awarded
the Home Safety Council’s Commendation Award for Product
Innovation for Consumer Safety.
HSC and CFSI understand the
importance of raising fire prevention awareness and the need for
fire departments to have successful fundraising tools. The
Fire-Safe Flameless Candles are a new approach to accomplishing
both.
