IMPORTANT NSVFA NEWS ANNOUNCEMENTS!
2007-2008
NSVFA MEMBERSHIP DUES TO INCLUDE NSVFA OWNED NEWSPAPER
An approved motion at the 2005
Annual Conference General Assembly instructed the NSVFA
Executive Board to review the NSVFA publication and NSVFA
communications. In response to this motion, a subcommittee
of the E-Board explored options and reported its results to
the E-Board at its May, 2006, meeting at Fire School. At
this meeting, the Board voted to approach the membership at
the 2006 Annual Conference with a proposal that the NSVFA
publish its own newspaper. At this Conference, following
presentation, a motion was made and the general assembly
overwhelmingly approved that the NSVFA publish its own
newspaper contracting with Blaze Publications, who also is
publisher of the Iowa Firefighter newspaper. The motion
also allowed the E-Board to create the governing guidelines
relative to the new newspaper subscription process.
As a result,
effective October 1, 2007, the Nebraska Smoke-Eater will no
longer be the official newspaper of the NSVFA. Any member
that joins the NSVFA beginning with the 2007-2008 membership
period, will automatically receive the new NSVFA owned and
published newspaper.
We are
informing you early of this action so you may budget for the
membership dues and determine your course of action. You
will need to make a business case decision on whether you
continue to subscribe to the Smoke-Eater. We have attached
a policy describing the new dues structure and rules
associated with the 2007-2008 dues to this letter. Please
take a moment to review these rules.
The Executive Board feels that
any organization that has an information highway to keep all
of its members informed strengthens the organization as well
enables the organization to grow. The format of the new
publication will be professional, attractive, colorful and
well read. The new newspaper will be a tool to better
inform the membership of current events in the Association
and will be another method to recruit new NSVFA members as
well as maintain members.
We
are seven months away from the 2007-2008 renewal of your
membership in the NSVFA and wanted to inform you early of
the new dues structure and the benefit of a new publication
that will be included with your dues. We are hopeful that
if you have questions, you will contact the NSVFA office,
your Area Representative or your District Director with
questions. The goal is to inform everyone of the upcoming
change and answer any and all questions.
The
NSVFA is now running a contest to name the paper with the
winner to be announced at the 2007 Fire School. If you have
an idea for a name for the newspaper, please write it down
and postal mail or email it to the office for
consideration. Each NSVFA member may submit one entry with
one name suggestion per entry and the entry should include
your name, fire department and phone contact number. The
only criteria for the name is that it “connects” to all
members of the NSVFA. All submittals must be post marked or
emailed to the NSVFA office no later than March 16, 2007.
All entries will be judged by the NSVFA Special Recognition
Committee and the winner will be announced at the 2007 Fire
School and will receive a motel room at the 2007 Annual
Conference in Ogallala, for three nights, free of charge,
beginning Thursday night, October 18, 2007.
